FREE "Kalachakra Dasa" Software Program

When I taught Kalachakra dasa to students at the Summer Jyotish (Vedic astrology) workshop organized by Arsha Vidya Gurukulam, I announced a free Kalachakra dasa program as a gift to students. It is free to anyone who wants it!

Vedic astrology has several dasa systems (complex periodicities). Kalachakra dasa is the best dasa system among those, in my humble opinion and experience. I use many dasa systems, but Kalachakra dasa consistently gave me the best results.

Actually, Sage Parasara said in a classic, "kaalachakra dasaa chaanyaa maanyaa sarva daSaasu yaa", which means, "there is another dasa called Kalachakra dasa, which the most acceptable (respectable) among all dasas." However, not many Vedic astrologers of today use this dasa, because it is a little cumbersome to compute.

If a renaissance is needed in Vedic astrology, research into this great dasa system is certainly a necessity. Considering that many commercial software packages don't support Kalachakra dasa (this is what I am told) and considering that controversies surround its definition, I decided to quickly write a small software program that computes Kalachakra dasa, in order to facilitate research on it in the computer age. As my interest here is to increase the awareness and to promote research into Kalachakra dasa, I decided to give away the program free. This was announced at the class.

Requirements: Any PC with Windows 95 or Windows NT operating system
Program size: About 60k bytes (i.e., very small)
Input: Enter natal Moon's degrees (e.g. 59.698913) or natal Moon's degrees and minutes (e.g. 59 deg 42 min) and birthday in a dialog box
Output: Deha rasi, jeeva rasi, Moon's navamsa rasi and dasas and antardasas of Kalachakra dasa (using 360-day years and using the interpretation/scheme I defined in class)

It is FREE!! If you need this program, please go to the SJVC site.

Detailed hand-outs on Kalachakra dasa, which I distributed at my class at Arsha Vidya Gurukulam on May 29, 1998, can now be accessed online on this homepage. This tutorial includes all of the original examples and exercises designed for the class and includes some explanation also!

Feel free to get the software, study the tutorial and carry out some experiments with this dasa! Remember to rectify the birthtime with known events from past before you use this dasa (dates in this dasa change by 3 months if birthtime changes by 1 minute). Also, rely heavily on divisional charts for best results. Read the tutorial to see what I mean.

Important Note: Please check this page after 1-2 months for a new version of this software, that allows you to try different alternative definitions (like 360d vs 365d years, different definitions of what to do when a dasa cycle ends etc), so that you can carry out research by trying various definitions on the same charts!! The current version uses the definition which I taught in the class. It has worked for me pretty well, though I am still doing research into alternatives.
