Irrespective of your race, class, caste and creed, you too can do homam by yourself, to various Hindu deities (e.g. Ganapathi, Chandi, Krishna, Vishnu, Mahalakshmi, Shiva, Hanuman, Kala Bhairava, Shani, Kuja). A white paper on the importance of homam as a spiritual practice was presented by me at World Association of Vedic Studies (WAVES) 2010 conference at Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in August 2010.

Though you may not be able to comprehend it, this sample article will give you an idea of the breadth and depth of Vedic astrology, as opposed to western astrology. Vedic astrology is perhaps the only form of astrology that can explain why twins born 2 minutes apart can be different!!

By the grace of Goddess Sri Maha Lakshmi and Lord Sri Maha Vishnu, I was introduced to the fascinating field of astrology by my father Sri P.V.S. Chalapathi Rao at a young age. He is blessed with an unmatched power of intuition. The lifestyle he leads is simple, austere, religious, orthodox and saattwik.

Anyone familiar with astrology must be familiar with the name of Prof. B.V. Raman, who sowed the seed for a renaissance in Jyotish knowledge in the modern world by creating a body of Jyotish literature in English. Though I never met him, I learnt from his books and I reverntially consider him my guru.

For improving my understanding of Jyotish, I surrendered to Maharshi Parasara (father of Veda Vyasa). Ever since I started doing daily homam (fire ritual) in mid-2006 and started thinking of Maharshi Parasara reverentially as a guru at the end of homam while offering oblations of ghee to him, some ideas started coming to me and my knowledge of Jyotish started to get refined. Some interesting ideas that came after homam, especially related to fine correlations in terms of divisional longitudes, have already been shared as free research articles. I consider these humble contributions to be a blessing from Maharshi Parasara and will continue the work.
